Horizon is a Chinese ink and color painting executed with traditional brushwork on handmade Xuan paper.
In addition to ink, the artist incorporates traditional Chinese pigments—applied with the same brush-based techniques—to introduce restrained areas of color. The luminous yellow tones are created through layered washes of mineral and botanical pigments, absorbed naturally into the fibers of the paper.
Through the interplay of ink, color, and layered brush strokes, the work constructs a space that exists between the physical landscape and an inner, contemplative horizon.
Rather than depicting a specific scene, the painting interprets the idea of the “horizon” as both a visual boundary and a psychological threshold. The natural absorbency of Xuan paper allows ink and pigment to spread and settle organically, creating subtle textures, rhythmic pauses, and a quiet sense of breathing within the composition.
As part of the Horizon Series, this work explores what lies beyond the visible edge—where perception, memory, and inner reflection quietly converge.
