This series features Liu Xiaoning’s innovative and entirely self-developed technique of applying oil pigments directly onto traditional Chinese Xuan paper — a cross-media approach that creates a unique fusion of oil painting depth and the natural absorbency of handmade paper. Based on all available information in the contemporary art field, this method of oil painting on Xuan paper is currently unique to Liu Xiaoning, both in China and globally.

The natural fibers of Xuan paper absorb and diffuse the oil pigments in a way no other surface can, resulting in textures, layers, and luminosity that cannot be replicated. Each piece carries the spirit of Eastern materials combined with the expressive power of Western oil painting, giving the series exceptional artistic identity and strong collectible value.
